Charlotte Lai is a licensed electrologist in the State of California. In order to meet the requirements of the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology, she completed 600 hours of training at the American Institute of Education. She is well-integrated within various transgender communities throughout the Los Angeles area, and as a consequence, she is very familiar with the frustrations and concerns that many have with the hair-removal providers in the region.
Prior to becoming an electrologist, Charlotte was a bioinformatician in the Guttman Lab at Caltech, supporting research to elucidate the roles long non-coding RNA molecules play in transcription and sex determination. Before her position at Caltech, she was a scientist at Materia, developing new applications for polymers formed by ring-opening metathesis. Charlotte holds a B.Sc. in chemistry from Caltech.
Charlotte lives in Pasadena with her wife, Miranda, and their two cats, Ada and Pounce.
